It's been awhile since I posted pics of my office and quilt studio, so since I am cleaning them in order to make it nicer for when people come to check out the long arm I am selling to make room for the new bigger long arm I ordered, I thought this was a good time to update my studio pics.
This is the view into my office space
This is where I sew when I want to watch something on the computer. Under this desk area I keep 2 good size containers of crumbs/ fabric. One for neutrals and one for color.
I keep my treadle machine under one of my windows in the office
I also have a basic design wall in my office.
I have a 2nd design wall in my studio
Opposite of the design wall is where I keep all of my long arm thread, easy for my customers to choose the color of thread they want on their quilts.
Under my long arm, I keep my fabric yardage separated into the 12 colors I keep.
Next to the yardage is where I keep my fat quarter storage
This wall runs parallel to my long arm and is where I keep my Bernina
To the right of my Bernina I keep some of my scrap user system...
and to the left of my Bernina I keep the rest of my scrap user system. Again all of the areas are separated into 12 colors. They are white, off white, yellow, orange, red, pink, purple, blue, green, brown, grey, and black.
I use my foyer closet to store my batting and right now on my dinning room table is quilts waiting to be quilted and lots of stuff that is being sold with my long arm.
love it, so organized. Great pics. thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bonnie Hunter really had a lot to do with how I organize my stash, I just added a few extra things to make it more me ( 5" & 10" squares and the 1" batik hexies).
DeleteWonderful!! I have plans to copy you Storage ideas!! Thanks for listing the colors you store!
ReplyDeleteThank you Cindy, but how I organized the stash was 90% based on Bonnie Hunter's scrap user system. Also you can get great deals on the sterilite containers (like I used) at the walmart.com website, they sell them in groups of 10 for a really great price and the best part is they deliver them straight to your door. It took me about 2 years during the summer months to get it to look like it does.
DeleteWow. What a nice sewing room. I love how you have it so organized and sew easy to work in.
ReplyDeleteThank you Robin, it is pretty easy to find everything I'm looking for.
DeleteWhat great storage plans. So neat and organized. Because there is no clutter it is very calming as well as inspirational with your ability to get to whatever you need!!
ReplyDeleteAwesome room, great storage. My scrap system is getting started, but I only have about 1/10th of your fabric. I love the same Sterilite container and have several in my studio.
ReplyDeleteI like the way you've left yourself room to move around and how you've not cluttered the space with little knick-knacks.
ReplyDeleteJoAnn!...love your set up and feeling like I will never get there but I will...I stop and play too much inbetween...LOL but I have been using Bonnie's idea's and that is how I found you. :) So do you mind some long arm questions? What are you upgrading to and from what? I would love to buy one but have very little knowledge of what I am looking for...lots of googling I suppose would help but would like a long armers input. :) Thanks, Vanessa (Ness) Swedie61@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI also have 2 sewing rooms (1 longarm, 1 sewing). Mine are nowhere near this organized, but I want to get them that way. What are the square foot sizes of each room?
ReplyDeleteAwesome system Bonnie has. My Quilt Zone is nowhere near this organized. You inspire me to go and sort before the Mystery starts.
ReplyDeleteHey JoAnn, great blog today was so excited to see Bonnie highlighted your sewing area today!!!! hope you are doing well! hugs....
ReplyDeleteHi Lorene! Are you doing Bonnie's mystery this year? I am.
ReplyDeleteYes Joann, I am!!!! all her other mysteries have been so pretty. and I really like the colors!!! the pink you know..... I have all my fabric, I am ready to go!
Deleteoh my gosh. i adore your system; something to strive for indeed! a question for you - in which container do you store larger multi-color prints? this is always my dilemma when things "read" more than one color! or those pesky holiday fabrics that read both green and red!
ReplyDeleteWhen a fabric has a lot of different colors on it, I will look at the background color of the fabric and I go with that when sorting my fabrics into the 12 color families I keep. I also will put the aquas in with the greens, and the turquoise in with the blues. Or you can do what Bonnie does which is to look at the fabric from 6 feet away and see what is the strongest color that you see.
