With the economy as it is alot of quilters are looking for ways to save $ when it comes to quilting. Here is a way you can do just that.
Over at Hickory Hill Quilts they have a cool template and idea to make hexies in a quilt as you go way. First you need one of their templates like above (they come in several sizes...I bought the large and the extra large).
Then I dug through my stash and found 6 cordinating fat quarters (you can use any scraps that you have left over from other projects as well).
This technique uses up all that left over batting scraps from previous quilt projects. Finally a way to use up all that stuff :0)
Trace the templates on strips of fabric then cut out shapes.
Follow the tutorial here for a more detailed instructions on how to do this technique. Then just sew them together. So quick and easy. It can be done on the sewing machine, by hand or a combination of both. It also makes for a great portable project that you can take anywhere. Best part is you can use up your scraps!
